Releases
Every Cortex build that was produced as an installer, newest first. Development milestones (the V1.0 and V1.5 sessions in Planning/TODO.md) are not releases and are not listed. How a release is built and checked is in Release and packaging.
Warning
Releases are not code-signed. Compare the SHA-256 of the file you received with the value below before running it (Get-FileHash <file> -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell).
0.2.0#
- Artifact:
Cortex_0.2.0_x64-setup.exe(NSIS, x64, per-user), built withnpm run installeron 2026-10-16. - Size: 3,253,976 bytes (3.10 MiB). The installed
cortex-desktop.exeis 13,581,312 bytes. - SHA-256:
ACC858BD7B5215A4479C5E626C8ADBFA37DC9F1547859D01655A29A29D89201E - Signature: none (
NotSigned). - Requirements: Windows x64 with the WebView2 runtime (installed by the setup when missing, with internet access). Tested on Windows 11; Windows 10 version 1809 or later is expected to work but untested. Agents need at least one agent CLI, signed in.
- New: the Runtimes screen, opened on first start: for Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode it shows what is found (executable, version, signed in or not) and installs the missing ones you select with their official installers (winget, OpenAI's installer, npm), keeping existing installs. CLIs are found in the
PATHWindows has now and in their usual install folders, so a CLI installed while Cortex runs needs no restart. OpenCode 2 is reported as unsupported. See installation. - Validation done: artifact type, size, hash, signature status and version metadata; the generated NSIS script (only
cortex-desktop.exe, per-user, uninstall keeps the data); the packaged release binary started on an empty data directory, opened the Runtimes screen in setup mode with the CLIs of the build machine correctly reported (Claude Code and Codex ready, OpenCode 2 unsupported), wrote no sign-in output to its log and shut down cleanly; an independent review's 8 findings were fixed before this build; the install job is covered by tests with a fake command runner, and the real runner by tests that start cmd.exe, winget (--version) and PowerShell. - Not validated by the build: running the setup, upgrade from 0.1.0 and uninstall, and a real install of each CLI from the Runtimes screen on a machine without them. These are left to a manual test on a clean machine (Release and packaging).
- Limitations: as 0.1.0 (not code-signed, per-user only, shared folder for binaries and data, no auto-update, Windows only); OpenCode install needs Node.js; OpenCode 2 is not supported.
0.1.0#
- Artifact:
Cortex_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe(NSIS, x64, per-user), built withnpm run installeron 2026-10-13. - Size: 3,097,507 bytes (2.95 MiB). The installed
cortex-desktop.exeis 12,820,992 bytes. - SHA-256:
092E6545E87D52D70D8FD0CD1EDAE4A2B1CB70CBC6C96493E4B9FA73D91EF96F - Signature: none (
NotSigned). - Requirements: Windows x64 with the WebView2 runtime (installed by the setup when missing, with internet access); at least one agent CLI installed and logged in for the agents to start (see Installation).
- Contents: the frameless window with Cortex's own title bar; Agents, Tasks, Processes and MCP screens; Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode runtimes; the local MCP server. See the user guide for what each does.
- Validation done: artifact type, size, hash, signature status and version metadata; the generated NSIS script; the packaged release binary passed the scripted window check (30/30) and the agent workflow with a real Claude Code turn (8/8).
- Not validated by the build: running the setup, the installed shortcuts, upgrade over an existing install and uninstall. These are left to a manual test on the target machine (the steps above).
- Limitations: not code-signed; per-user only (no all-users install, no MSI); binaries and Cortex data share
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Cortex(the uninstaller keeps the data); no auto-update; Windows only; nocortexcommand-line tool. The product limitations are in the user guide.
